Dance Offered
 
Laurie Stream Dance offers classes in tap, ballet, jazz, acrobatics, pointe and lyrical for children and adults of all ages, and all skill levels

 

 

Acrobatics
  • The performance of extraordinary feats of balance, agility and motor coordination.  Tumbling stunts will be performed down the mat, without any equipment.
 
Ballet
  • A highly technical, formalized kind of performance dance.  Ballet is a poised style of dance that incorporates the foundational techniques for many other dance forms, focusing on pointe work and flowing, precise acrobatic movements.  Ballet has been influential as a form of dance globally.
 
 Jazz
  • Modern jazz dance encompasses various techniques, such as center control of the body, and spotting, which enables the dancer to maintain balance and control while performing such turns as Pirouettes.  Jazz dancers are greatly benefitted by a sound knowledge of ballet training.
 
Lyrical
  • A dance style that combines elements of ballet, modern, jazz and tap dance techniques.  It is commonly set to popular music with vocals.  Dancers will use the lyrics of a song or instrumental piece to inspire certain movements, or to show expression.  The goal of a lyrical dancer is to use gesture, facial expression, and controlled movements in order to execute their movements and emotions fully.
 
Musical Theatre
  • A form of theatrical dance combining music and singing.
 
 
Pointe 
  • En Pointe means "on the tips of the toes", and is a part of classical ballet technique made possible by specially reinforced shoes called pointe shoes, or toe shoes.  This technique has evolved to enable dancers to dance on the tips of their toes for extended periods of time.
 
Tap
  • A form of dance characterized by a tapping sound that is created from metal plates that are attached to both the ball and heel of the dancers' shoe.  Tap dancing was formed from other types of dancing, such as ballet and jazz.  What is presently called jazz dance evolved out of tap dance, so both styles of dance have many moves in common.
